Our Deepest Fear. NLP Manchester with Jamie Smart.

Last Tuesday I attended the Manchester NLP and EI Group with Karen S. (whilst she was on Emmerdale Farm at the same time, I didn't know they still made the show, never mind watched it!)
The timing seemed to be just right having completed my NLP certification last week.

Jamie Smart was the guest speaker. He is the founder of Salad, an NLP Institute based in Leicester and is known as one of the UK's most innovative NLP trainers.

He did some changework with a couple of people and discussed a few ideas. For example if you ask anyone how they would choose to feel at any moment, what would you say? Most people would obviously reply with a positive state such as joy or happiness. The thing is, when we're not choosing to feel this, who (or what) is choosing for us? Hmm....

The fact is that we are diamonds, covered in crap and a hard outer surface. The outer surface is who we pretend we are, the crap is who we fear we are and the diamond is who we truly are. When we're doing something we enjoy and is from the heart, we shine as the diamonds that we are - and whenever we drift from this we get further from our true selves.

This quote elegantly sums it up:
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."- Marianne Williamson
