2012 and the end of the Mayan Calendar

This is for fellow desk top astronomers, that look to their laptop to research the heavens above.  Many people don't have an awareness beyond next weeks X-Factor but there are those that contemplate the Universe - why leave astronomy to the astronomers when you could learn so much about the bigger picture yourself?
Put the kettle on and put an hour aside to learn about the infinite Universe and a ≈ 26000 year cycle.

Below you will find some basics on how the calendar works and scroll to the bottom for a fun video that may (or may not) be the greatest Science Fiction story told! You will have to forgive the American humour and sound effects to get through it, as he explores the 2012 Prophecies.

Your soul will be drawn to the animation at 19m15s in the Youtube Video. Don't miss it as it will expand and spin your mind...

And all this is happening on Winter Solstice 2012, which 'coincidentally' is also in time for Christmas and Jesus' birthday (I won't go further into this as it will only upset the hard-core KJV literal believers)

Unlike 12-12-12 which is a man-made phenomena, such as roads, calendars and religion;
21-12-2012 (or 12-21-12 for the Yanks) is different.

21st December 2012 is a unique event during the Winter Solstice, irrespective of date and it is a Universal phenomena, such as days, years, nature and life itself.

The Apocalypse is coming… definition: a revelation of something hidden.
And after Revelation comes Genesis again.

Come the day after 21st December 2012, at least some things will be clearer (and another end of the world averted.) I bet Bruce Willis won't even break into a sweat (one for Armageddon fans there!)

The clock says it's time to be aware of what's going on around you and wake up!

Good morning,
Bobby :-)

December 21, 2012: Some predict the end of the world, some predict the beginning of a new era. The basis for these claims is based on the Ancient Mayan calendar.
It may seem silly to base a prediction off an ancient civilization's calendar but the Mayans were a highly mathematically advanced civilization. Their calendar is not only mathematically complex, it is also highly accurate (in fact, more accurate than the Gregorian calendar we use nowadays).
The last day of the Mayan calendar corresponds to December 21, 2012. On this date, the Mayans are predicting the end of an era. The Mayans believe they were living in the 3rd era and on this date, the 4th era will begin. What does this mean to us? The beginning of a new golden age? Or does it mean the end of the world and life starts all over.
Nobody can really know what will happen. Some predictions indicate that on this date, the world will end and a new world will begin. Others interpret the 'end of an era' as the coming of a new golden age, world peace, end of world hunger, elimination of poverty or a cure for a common illness.
It is impossible to prepare for something we do not know. I would suggest being with a group of friends or loved one, counting down to this fateful day, and hoping for the best. Chances are, nothing will happen, but if it IS the coming of a new golden age, I would suggest everyone to savour and take in every second of this momentus event. If it is the end of the world, well, what can you do, at least you're with the ones you love.

What comes after Winter?

Anyone else getting Deja Vu?  The weather was similar this time last year and the chaos the same. The world keeps turning and life must go on.

Winters come and go, to return again... just as the summers do. So why are so many people surprised or shocked when it happens again?

So whilst it looks bleak for the councils gritting roads and people who need to go to work, kids are out having fun in the snow and so are some of the adults. Driving isn't safe, so staying in the warmth sounds like a good idea, extending the Christmas holidays.  With a cup of hot chocolate and snuggling up to watch TV / DVD's, read a good book or just spend more time on the internet and facebook.

Enjoy the weather and time off, as it will be time to go back out soon enough and spring will be around the corner.  If it wasn't for the cold, how would we know to enjoy the sun?

Bobby :-)

Taxing time for the Councils this Winter

The council's running out of grit and it's not the first time. The 2009 grit supplies issue from the Local Government website would be lessons to learn from wouldn't they?  Here is the 2010 briefing on what is happening.

As long as your council tax money is going to cover wages and meetings but NOT towards rubbish collections and icy roads, at least you know it's being well spent.

Did you know it might be possible not to have to pay Council Tax? Yes it's true, if you want to look into it go to www.nocounciltax.com

Latest on Council Grit Supplies

West Berkshire council confirmed that it had received an emergency delivery of salt from neighbouring Hampshire hours before it ran out. But it still only had supplies for two or three days. Harrow council, in north London, said it could run out by the end of the week if severe weather continued.

Durham County Council has halted gritting of minor roads because of "uncertainty" over salt supplies.

"It is important that everyone understands we are managing very difficult ongoing winter conditions with restricted supplies."

GRIT supplies in Kirklees could run out today, as more bad weather is forecast for the rest of the week.

Harrow council in north-west London described the grit supply situation as "pretty outrageous".

Many councils in Scotland have said they are running low on salt and grit, which has prevented them from treating the icy roads in the longest winter freeze for two decades.

The world keeps turning and life must go on...

...in this winter wonderland! SNOW - Fun for the kids, no fun for the adults.

Some see snow and it brings out the inner child of wanting to go out and stomp in it, have snowball fights, go sledging and make snowmen. Others see it as a problem, difficulty getting to work, snow to clear, getting wet and dangerous roads and travel.

Snow like everything else in life is neither good or bad, just your perspective and feelings on it make it whatever it is in relation to you.

--------------

I got back from london sunday night and missed the worst of the weather:
http://bobby-gill.blogspot.com/2009/02/what-weekend-let-it-snow.html

Amazing how it snows and today the country comes to a standstill. People snowed in, not going to work, hoping things are cancelled. Londoners should come up north sometime as we get weather similar to this a lot more often. Saw the news reports on the news channel for 10 minutes and there will be people watching it all day... better than eastenders hey, sensationalism to keep you glued and watching the box. Must make the World News I'm sure, poor UK has snow! Aww...
And how the rest of the world copes with snow:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/topics/weather/4434232/Snow-Britain-How-other-cities-cope.html

Facebook has about 3 times as many people online chat today, compared to the usual I see... it's almost like school being cancelled when you were a kid and you could stay home and play out in the snow. Now replaced with online, surf and socialise. Are we getting old!?

Had a property event tuesday evening and people ringing up to find out if it is cancelled. We just need to get on with it. Hope the main speaker turns up and the majority of people booked on... else will have to come up with something fun and educational. http://www.northernpropertynetwork.co.uk/
(Update: Due to extreme weather warnings the event has been postponed for 2 weeks and it now looks to be clearing! http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/yh/yh_forecast_warnings.html
Yorkshire: Very Heavy Snowfall, Severe Blizzards & Severe Drifting Snow. Disruption to power supplies and transport is expected with a danger to life. )

It's only winter and a few little flakes of snow! Either we can choose to stay in and have a rest or get on with things and not let it bother us and make things happen. Winter is here but it's not going to last forever. The cold will kill a lot of the germs and viruses going round as well, so it's a good thing. I'm tempted to sleep it off but have things to do that won't wait for the weather.

So whether it is the weather or the economical winter you're concerned about, remember it will be over soon and you can still get on with your daily life if you want. Just another important season in the story of your life. Gold stars to everyone that made it to wherever they were going today regardless! ☆

OK, I got to do some work... just thought I'd say hi to you all! It's nice being self employed and able to work from home.

I kept telling people to take it steady in winter and hibernate... wouldn't have to worry about snow then, just being wrapped up nice and warm.

Looking forward to Summer, Bobby ☺

P.S. Don't you think Boris is just great! Mass skive sounds about right. Not politically correct but a stick is a stick...
